Jorie Prepura-Sigesmund, LCSW

Jorie Prepura-Sigesmund is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and received her Masters in Social Work from the University of Chicago in 2005.  She has a Bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Jorie currently provides individual therapy, family therapy, couples counseling, and in-home counseling when needed.  Jorie will observe a child within the school environment to provide additional advice and support to the family and school personnel.

Jorie’s professional background has provided her with the advocacy and counseling skills needed to treat a diverse range of mental health issues and populations.  Some of the approaches Jorie uses include- Psychodynamic Theory, Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, and Theraplay (especially for younger children).  Jorie’s main counseling philosophy is based on Family System’s Theory and finding a family’s strengths is of the utmost importance.  Jorie’s background has provided her with extensive experience working with a child’s school personnel, outside providers, and evaluating the child within his/her environment.

Jorie has specific experience treating children (and their parents) with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.  Jorie’s style is both compassionate and direct, focusing on progress and incremental change that a family can recognize.  Jorie’s early professional experience includes working as a child advocate/case manager for the Washington, D.C. and Chicago child welfare systems, providing therapy for children and families at the University of Chicago Hospital outpatient program, counseling young adults with violently acquired injuries at Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital, and then moving on to support Mount Sinai Children’s Hospital.

 

Jorie later worked as a clinician and outreach manager at Response, an organization affiliated with Jewish Child Family Services, that serves adolescents and their families.  Most recently, Jorie provided therapy at The Theraplay Institute in Evanston, IL, treating families with adopted children that presented with Reactive Attachment Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Anxiety and Depression.  She also received training in Theraplay, a type of play therapy that is based on Attachment Theory.
