Dr. Alissa Simon, Psy.D.

Dr. Alissa Simon, Psy.D. works as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Highland Park Psychological Services offering teletherapy and in-person counseling services. She attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where she received her B.A. in Psychology.  She then obtained her Masters in Counseling as well as her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, Illinois.  Her degree was complimented with a Concentration in Child and Adolescent Development and a Certificate in Group Psychotherapy.  She has had extensive experience and training working with children, adolescents, and adults from diverse backgrounds within several settings including schools, outpatient care, non-profit agencies, and community mental health centers.  Additionally, Dr. Simon has been teaching at the graduate level, and has provided clinical supervision and case consultation to predoctoral candidates.   Her doctoral research focused on relational aggression among adolescents and later, she developed a group therapy curriculum to address and prevent bullying among young girls, which is currently being used in several schools.  She has also provided in-depth therapy to graduate students interested in greater self-awareness and overcoming quarter-life crisis issues. As a guest lecturer, Dr. Simon has given formal presentations on Play Therapy to local graduate students.

 

Through her warm and compassionate style, Dr. Simon has provided therapy to individuals, families, and groups for more than ten years. Her therapeutic approach is dynamic, relational, and strength-based.  She works collaboratively with her clients to develop treatment goals and to promote self-esteem, growth, and change.  With the support and expertise of Dr. Simon, clients report feeling empowered and having an improved overall sense of well-being. Specifically, clients may experience more gratifying relationships and develop the tools to overcome adversity.
